O’Donnell believes in the opportunity for science to evolve more and be more like a higher education; it can never win at the drop of a hat. We support the notion of an education provided by the state of California. In many states, students are required to take courses from their parents, and in some cases courses can be taught to parents from a private, nonprofit school. With these three steps, a child will learn about their profession, their parents’ approach to science, and really come into their own. The following are what I hope to accomplish this summer.
– Create a STEM environment that is culturally neutral – Create dialogue about all STEM fields in an open and accessible way: through peer involvement, education, and community service – Inform all STEM employees about science policy and procedure, which also applies to other college programs – Direct all STEM staff to be equipped with critical thinking skills – Teach STEM to those people working in the population at large, and those people as well (by showing other STEM employees how to do the same jobs). – Share science knowledge through curriculum materials at peer institutions. – Develop new knowledge (e.g., by taking a real chemistry class) – Acknowledge whether there are any fundamental physical limitations to the nature of humanity? What comes after our uniqueness? – Promote empathy and compassion for some of our fellow humans – Teach STEM workers about the concepts of evolution, the role of natural selection and human culture in shaping the bioterrorism epidemic, the role of natural disasters and the role of scientists in understanding the current epidemic .
